ما امضا کنندگان زیر، محققین و دانشگاهیان در زمینۀ مطالعات خاورمیانه و ایرانشناسی، جمهوری سلامی ایران را به پایان دادن نقض حقوق بشر در مورد بهاییان در ایران—که در ماه های اخیر شدّت گرفته است—و اعطای کلیه حقوق مدنی و آزادی ایشان برطبق اعلامیه جهانی حقوق بشرو معاهدۀ بین المللی درحقوق اجتماعی و اقتصادی که ایران خود نیز از امضا کنندگان آن است؛ فرا می خوانیم. ما با نگرانی بسیار شاهدآن هستیم که عملیاتی برای محروم کردن بهاییان ایران ازحقوق بنیادین انسانی خود در جریان است. این همه گویای وقایعی نگران کننده در داخل ایران است ک به نظر می رسدراه را برای نقض هر چه بیشتر حقوق انسانی بهاییان آماده می کند. وقایع اخیر موارد زیررا شامل می شود، ولی محدود به این ها نیست:

Dear Ones,
Your defense of the rights of the mistreated and persecuted Baha’is is a reason to be “Proud” not “Ashamed”.  We, a group of Baha’is inside Iran, are filled with joy to see you take part in one of the most significant renaissances in thinking among Iranians.

I deeply believe in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and I strongly agree that individual and collective liberties should be given to every member of society, particularly men and women of our nation, and that everyone should be free to select his religion, and life and living style, and that all people must enjoy freedom of expression and thought.  I firmly believe that people can and should be allowed to decide for themselves the course of their individual life.  No one is permitted to choose for you and I, or dictate a particular life styles upon us.  God has created us free.
 
I take an oath on "freedom", which has its letters written separately and freely from one another [translator's note: freedom, or azadi in Persian, has each letter separate from others].  If more days are granted to me, I will redeem my debt to the beleaguered girls and women in my nation.

من به اصل بیانیه حقوق بشر اعتقاد راسخ دارم و با اصل احترام به آزادیهای فردی و اجتماعی تک تک افراد بشر بخصوص زنان و مردان هموطنم، آزادی انتخاب مذهب، انتخاب نوع زندگی، پوشش، آزادی بیان و اندیشه به شدت موافقم. بر این اساس بر این باورم که انسانها می توانند و باید نحوه ی زندگیشان را خود انتخاب کنند. هیچکس حق ندارد برای شما و من تصمیم بگیرد و نحوه ی زندگی کردن را برایمان دیکته کند. خداوند انسانها را آزاد آفریده . قسم به آزادی که حروف آن هم جدا جدا و آزاد از هم نوشته می شود، اگر عمری باقی باشد، روزی دینم را به خصوص برای دختران و بانوان ستم دیده ی کشورم ادا خواهم کرد. با آرزوی توفیق برای شما عزیزان نادیده. غریب آشنا .
