| A group of Baha'is in Iran, whose sentiments reflect the views of their larger community, issued the following statement in appreciation of the open letter by human rights activists, intellectuals, artists, writers, and journalists. Dear friends, Your championship of the rights of the oppressed and suffering should be a source of pride, not shame! We rejoice in your enlightened undertaking, signaling the beginning of a profound transformation of thought in Iranian society. This marks the onset of a new epoch of devotion to truth and rejection of oppression— whatever the target’s belief or ethnicity. We must acknowledge that the Baha'i community’s endurance of and reaction to unjust treatment contributed somewhat to your delay to act. You have observed a community that— contrary to prevailing norms and in accordance with its principles—neither entertains malice toward its oppressors nor contemplates revenge. Rather, this community turns to the same oppressive officials and institutions to register grievances and with utter benevolence gives the tormentor the opportunity to change his reprehensible behavior. The community also redirects the destructive forces of injustice from the oppressor to the act of oppression. Successive generations of this community over the past one hundred and sixty five years have endured such cruelty with utmost patience and forbearance as well as everlasting exuberance and vitality. This historic statement from you, the enlightened and fair-minded Iranian friends, is a soothing balm to the suffering of this stricken community. We declare in return our longstanding and abiding commitment—nay obligation—to defend the human rights of our fellow citizens regardless of belief, gender, or ethnicity. May this solidarity spread its fruits among all Iranians, disperse the dark clouds of tyranny, and lead to a sunrise of justice and equity—at last—over this long-deprived land. A Group of Baha'is in Iran |

| To the honourable signatories: Dearly loved friends, Your letter made a great impression on my heart; never before such a letter has been sent to the bahá'ís and I could not suppress my tears as I read each of your names out loud; names in the Persian language that I have come to love as I became bahá'í some 20 years ago. Your letter shows that you investigated the situation before you formed yourselves an opinion and with all sincerity and courage stood up for the truth you found. Rest assured that we will pray for your protection and well-being, and we will give our utmost to contribute to a world where love takes the place of hatred and truth replaces prejudice, and each human being will shine and beam with light. Most lovingly, Marijn Beuling Health policy advisor Netherlands |

| Thank you from the bottom of my heart, with tears in my eyes. Although I am not Iranian, my roots run five generations deep as a western Baha'i. The Iranian believers are dearly loved throughout the Baha'i world and I cannot express enough my gratitude for your love and support on their behalf. Allah'u'Abha! | |

| As an Iranian I'm delighted to see my fellow country men/women holding themselves partly accountable for wrongs done by the establishment. If we are to improve as a nation, we must first recognise our faults and shortcomings so we can tackle them instead of constantly blaming others. This letter from the intellectuals has strengthened my faith in the Iranian people's intellect and ability to become a nation that rest of the world admire | |

| We Iranians from every walk of life and with any set of values and beliefs should objectively study the history of the movements of Bob and Bahaii to better appreciate the sacrifices that the followers of these movements have made over the past century and half to rehabilitate the Iranian culture, to bring Iran in line with the new era of human civilization and scientific progress, and to once again cultivate the seeds of Iranian identity in our beloved country and among our oppressed nation. We should be proud that this progressive movement has arisen from Iran and led by sacrificing Iranians of all social status. There is no doubt that in the decades and the centuries to come, the Bahaii teachings and values will spread massively all over the world and there will be a convergance all socie ties to recognition and respect of human rights and unity and peace for the human race as chosen by humans out of their wisdom and without fear of punishment from the above. | |

| I think this is a first and unique movement in Iranian history to take moral responsibility of religious violence. We accept that silence against crime is a kind of crime. We won’t be quiet from now and will object loudly to any and each kind of religious apartheid. |
